Walker Books 'My Ball is Broken'

After helping write some books for Pedigree, there was a premise that I had in my pad that didn’t really fit for the Dogphonics collection, so I wrote and illustrated it and my old partner Dustin de Souza helped with design. Walker Books have now published it and it’ll be in book shops early next year.

The book teaches kids about anxiety through the story of a very anxious dog.

Matchstick Ceremonies

Palo santo is a wood that people burn as incense, but if you’ve seen the blocks of it, you’ll know that it’s not that practical. So given that matches are made of wood I developed chunky matchsticks from reclaimed splinters of palo santo. This way, you can strike one on the fly.

On the back, there’s a breathing exercise that lasts the length of a matchstick. Or you can just use them when you go camping, toilet-ing, or after a wet dog has been in the car.

Selling in New Zealand and Australia.

Birkenhead Rooster

Getting woken up by a rooster is a romantic idea if you’re on a farm stay for a long weekend. Not if you’re living in central Auckland. Someone released this thing into the graveyard opposite us.

Instead of notifying the council or doing anything remotely useful, I made a poster that somehow got on the news. The council promptly removed it (rooster), remembrance tattoos were offered in the local tattoo shop, and people made stupid comments.

Pornosynthesis

A seedy book that celebrates plant reproduction and proceeds go to The Bee Cause. The books sell at the Tate London Shop, The Design Museum, Magma London, and Artwords.

The organs were modelled in clay, photographed by Catherine Losing, retouched by PT Retouch, and the incredible Oreoluwa Ayoade helped design the book.

BluntAid

Humanity is in disarray. We don’t know what to do. The only thing we do know is the world doesn’t need another ‘Save The World’ charity song. So we attempted to hold the world to ransom in order to raise much-needed funds.

The proactive proposal got a ‘lol’ from Richard Curtis, but a ‘please stop this’ from James Blunt’s manager. And while we didn’t get a yes, it resulted in a heap of social media attention for ReliefAid - a small New Zealand based humanitarian charity who most definitely deserve that attention.

Recipe Stories

In an attempt to get kids eating healthily, Recipe Stories is a set of books that combine 'fun' narratives with simple recipes. The main character always succeeds by eating the right food for the job. The books are sold in Borders bookstores across the UK.

Wash or Dry

Three in ten couples split up due to cleaning and household chores. So to make one particular chore fair, and potentially save a few marriages, I launched a set of tea towels with games on. The loser washes up.

The tea towels are stocked in over 10 London design stores, and were featured in the Guardian.
